I’m interested to hear why exactly do people read Scobleizer – Microsoft Geek Blogger? Personally I read Scoble’s little rants just for entertainment value and comment there to try to make sense of what he posts as a lot of the time his posts leave you thinking “what the?” and scratching your head.
I think a lot of people actually read Scoble’s blog to stay on the cutting edge and to find out about all the new, cool stuff so they can keep up with the Jones’ and that just seems a little bit sad to me.

I often unsubscribe. Then he’ll say something smart (often weeks after I’ve unsubscribed) and I’ll resubscribe. But, really, I only read 1 in 20 of his posts.

Another reason could be to do with so-called ‘power law distributions’, old news maybe but worth a read anyway: http://www.shirky.com/writings/powerlaw_weblog.html
Actually thinking about it, power law distributions is just a fancy way of saying ‘keeping up with the Jones’
It’s interesting, and I wrote a recent entry on my blog about this, that Scobleizer remains constantly at #1 on the ‘Top WordPress.com blogs today’ list. Perhaps the list runs on the average number of visitors, which would justify Scoble’s constant ranking. If that is the case then maybe they need to rephrase it to ‘blogs with most traffic’ because the word ‘today’ is leads you to believe that the list was different yesterday and the day before etc…nit-picking, I know but hey, someone’s got to challenge the big-wigs.

It’s hard to answer this without sounding like a whiny little bitch because Scoble’s more popular than me, but I agree with you. He honestly doesn’t seem worth reading. I don’t think the quality of his writing is very good, I think his interesting insights are few and far between, and I’m reasonably convinced if he wasn’t somewhat of a name at MS he’d be totally ignored.
Man, I do sound like a whiny little bitch, don’t I?

I read it because everyone else reads it, to stay on top of the who is who, keep with with whats going on. Im sure he is a nice guy but he doesnt have anything revolutionary to add. Its a bit like the self-fulfilling prophesy, hes popular because hes popular. More people read because he is the most popular which drives more people to his blog, which feeds more popularity.
Good for him anyhow for his success.
